Improved "Original 8-Stage Bathtub Filter"—higher quality than some others but effectiveness unclear
I ordered this to compare it to a similar tub filter from a different manufacturer. I first used this type of filter in the 1990's. I never knew, and still don't, what these filters really accomplish. I would need a way of testing the concentrations of dissolved substances in the water. However, without being able to directly compare the difference in water quality after filtration with this and the similar device I recently ordered, I can still say this one is of higher quality. It claims to be the original brand, and if that's true then others might be lower quality "knock off" albeit less expensive, versions.
One thing making this one better is that the filter is replaceable. Unfortunately, the filters aren't currently available on Amazon; you have to get them from the company website. One replacement filter is $35 at present, which is more than half the current price of the whole device. Still, that's an improvement over having to dispose of the entire device when the filter is used up.
A second plus is that they have improved the shape to prevent water overflow. With most of these, you have to limit how fast you fill the tub to avoid having a significant portion of the water miss passing through the filter. The Tubo "2.0" has a flanged top that can hold more water entering the filter from the faucet.
I took off one star because I wish they would provide data on how the Tubo bath filter improves water quality. I'm not certain that it is worth the $65 it was selling for at the time I ordered it, especially without proof of effectiveness. With citations showing effectiveness evidence, my tolerance for the price would definitely increase. The product info claims that it has undergone "clinically testing" but I didn't find anything about the results of such testing.
